This Journey is Yours
Where do you want to go?
I sat in a room with seven other men. We all had to complete the same exercise. We were asked to draw a picture. That's right, eight adult men had to take out a piece of paper and draw. This was going to be one heck of an art show.
The prompt was: "Draw a picture answering this: 'Where are you in your story right now?'"
In this weekly discipleship class, we had been discussing the concept of character arcs within the Bible. We dove deeper into how character arcs work and how we can see them in our own lives.
The timer began, and so did our pens. Each one of us looked at the blank page, ready to unleash our inner Picasso. I'd wager half of us thought, "Why are we doing this exactly?" Actually, only three other people needed to think that for me to be right, because in my mind, I thought this was silly. I thought it was going to be a waste of time.
I was wrong.
This exercise opened my eyes to an amazing truth. Each one of us is on a journey, and each one of us hopes for it to be an epic.
Seven of the eight men drew some form of picture that showed them on a road or path somewhere. The eighth drew a picture of himself resting, waiting for the next step in his journey to be revealed. That's right, 100% of us saw that the story in life was a journey to somewhere meaningful.
We each long to have a worthwhile life. We hope that we embark on a journey that is impactful and meaningful once it comes to an end. It's in our nature. It's in YOUR nature. You were created for a unique and purpose-filled journey that means something.
I am confident that you have a dream or idea that you'd love to see come true one day. There is a path in front of you, but you are unsure if you should take it or if you should just stay put. The journey appears long. The journey seems difficult. The journey looks tiring. In a world where it feels like we have little time for anything, how could you go on a journey this big?
Because YOU were made for it.
That's right, God made you to take a journey in this lifetime. He didn't create you to sit on the side of the path and watch everyone else go by. You’ve been given one opportunity to use this life for a meaningful purpose. You have been given the opportunity to go on a journey that will forever change you and the lives of those you encounter.
God didn't create you to coast through life. He created you with unique gifts, talents, and life experiences that lead to something purposeful. He is the guide on your journey, and He hopes you will follow His lead.
Where do you want this journey of life to lead? What is the epic adventure you've always wanted to go on? What were you created to do with the one life you have been gifted?
Don't sit on the side of the road any longer. Stand up. Face the fears and anxiety. Take one step at a time. This journey is meant to change you. This journey is meant to fulfill you. This journey is yours to take.
The BEST is yet to come!
-Joe
